The University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute will host a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design, May 18-21. This KLEC-approved course is based on the concept that proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in both the incidence and fear of crime while also improving quality of life.. Topics covered include:
CPTED concepts and principals
Behavior and the physical (built) environment
Vehicular and pedestrian traffic issues as it relates to access and safety
CPTED as a means of economic revitalization
Planning process including land use, zoning, codes and ordinances
CPTED assessments and plan review
Data collection, analysis, presentations and reports
Practical exercise involving site visits
Discussion of participant issues or local problem
