Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation Awards $37,500 in Scholarships

A total of $37,500 in scholarships has been awarded to 25 Kentucky students by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation (KLEMF).

The Gerald F. Healy Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation scholarships are awarded to students who are surviving family members of officers killed in the line of duty, as well as to dependents of current and retired officers and dispatchers. Dependents will receive $1,500 for the fall 2025 semester, while survivors will receive $5,000. Recipients for the 2025-2026 academic year are each dependent and will receive $1,500 toward the fall semester.

The year’s scholarships will support students at 14 Kentucky colleges and universities.

The Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation was founded in 1999 with the mission of creating a memorial to honor all Kentucky officers who have died in the line of duty. After the monument was completed in 2000, the organization expanded its efforts to establish a financial endowment program. This program supports the families of Kentucky peace officers and dispatchers by helping with educational, medical and emergency relief needs.

“The Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation is delighted to continue supporting families of officers and public safety dispatchers through this scholarship program,” said Brian Bowling, Chairman of the KLEMF Board of Directors. “It is our hope that these scholarships will greatly assist dependents and survivors in their academic pursuits.”

In 2004, the foundation created this scholarship program to help law enforcement officers, dispatchers and their families pay for college. The scholarships may be used at accredited colleges, including two-year and community colleges. They may also be used to attend recognized or certified vocational or trade schools. Students do not have to major in law enforcement or criminal justice to be eligible for the scholarship.

Gerald F. Healy was a founding member of the KLEMF organization and served on the board of directors until his death in January 2009. Healy embraced the philosophy of giving back to the community and was instrumental in starting the KLEMF college scholarship program.
